Restarting a stalled project?

Back in August I saw this post on Jim's Wargames Workbench - Rise of the Battleships

Pre-Dreadnaught naval is yet another wargaming period that has long intrigued me and I even bought some of Tumbling Dice's Victorian Period ships to try it out, but, as usual, never found a set of rules that I liked.

Anyway, I splashed out & got Rise of the Battleships from Wargames Vault and now I've finally got around to reading them, am definitely liking them so far!

Time to try and find the ships I bought and see how the rules work out ...

White Russian basing 01

Most of my miniature related efforts recently have been directed toward my 3mm imagi-nation project, which is documented on The Wars of Turkmenistania blog.

As that has progressed, I've got to the stage where I've begun doing the bases and am taking the chance to progress my White Russians as well - although it has been going remarkably slowly ...

However, the first round of engagements in the Wessex Wargamers Winchester Club's Back of Beyond campaign (as run by Jim of Jim's Wargames Workbench) has been published and it seems my honourable, reasonable, White Russians, led by Col. I.P.Addresski, have been attacked by the cheese-eating surrender monkeys of the French Expedition!! (led by the infamous Commandant Lostagaine)

That being the case, I will get a move on with the bases of my White Russians and have a pic of the first completed one here - a heavy machine gun team

and my home-made movement trays for the White Russians are nearly done too!

Old Age & Ebaying Mini's

Well, I'm finally having to admit it ... I'm getting so old my eyes are going and I'm having to get some reading glasses to be able to paint miniatures.

I've always been short-sighted and started to permanently wear specs about the age of 10, but at my last eyetest back in May it became apparent that my nearsight has detiorated to the point wear I should have varifocals or reading glasses.

I didn't get any then as I decided to continue removing my specs when painting or reading, but it's now getting to the point where I'm nearly getting paint on my nose as I'm having to hold the mini's so close ...

So off to Tesco's after to work to order some reading glasses ... ho-hum ...

The painting I mentioned above has been the 3mm stuff for my other blog - Wars of Turkmenistania - as well as the White Russians I've been posting about here recently and I've had an epiphany ...

I've decided to get into 3mm as my main figure size as I really enjoy painting them and divest myself of my assorted other miniatures via ebay. With this cunning plan I shall soon be using the evil corporate giant to sell mini's for the first time ...

Or, as is more likely, I'll plan to do it and then not get to around to it, and still have all the mini's stored away in 5 years time ....  :)

Unexciting progress ...

Moved onwards with the White Russians this weekend just gone. I added sand to their bases, the movement trays I've made for them and the command bases.

My (small) order from Warbases arrived as well, so I undercoated the bases for the vehicles and decided to use the 2 spares for my 'baggage bases'.

So, although unexciting, more progress has been made - hopefully photos soon!

White Russian Progress, part the third

Well, I got fed up with painting the 6 cavalry I have to yet to finish, and put the dip on the infantry and 'armoured cars' I'd finished for the White Russians and decided to put up some pics of them here.

I'll also update the 'My Lead Men - White Russians for Back of Beyond' with the pics - in case you've not seen that page it has all the latest pics of the entire force.

Note that these pics are before I've applied a coat of satin varnish which mitigates the gloss effect of the dip.
4 more infantry
Signaller + medic for command base
"armoured car" no.1 with Copplestone pilot
"armoured car" no.2
The riflemen, signaller and medic are all from Footsore Miniatures, but are no longer listed on their website ... the "armoured cars" are both from Ironclad Miniatures steam tank range

White Russian Progress, part the second

Over the weekend, I made a bit more progress on my unpainted White Russian stuff but nothing is quite finished yet - although it very nearly is!

I've also decided to repurpose a couple more Ironclad Miniatures' Steam Tanks that I have to my White Russians, although this time as 'armoured cars' - pics of them when they're finished.

The Back of Beyond White Russian army list does allow me to have an aircraft as part of my force, but when I suggested the newest member of the Ironclad Mini's range as my aircraft - see pic to right - Jim, the guy running the campaign, said he had to draw the line somewhere ... dashed unsporting if you ask me!
I forgot to tell him I already have one of these - pic to left - perhaps he'll let me use that?
